We live in Brooklyn where there is a lot of street traffic and I’m excited to have our air filtered in our great room where we have a ceiling fan because it’s both the kitchen and living room combination and so there is a lot of dust, but also cooking that happens in the space. How does an activated carbon filter actually work?

The best way to see it work (aside from noticing much cleaner air) is to weigh the filter when you open it, and weigh it again when it’s ready to change. You’ll see an increase in weight of 15-30% after using it. The weight gain represents the chemicals and gasses the activated coconut shell carbon has attracted!

Does it impact the balance of the fan?
Nope! Each filter only weights 6 grams. So they don't imbalance the rotation of the ceiling fan. We also tested the CFM to see if it would add resistance and degrade the CFM performance, and nothing was reported.
Will the adhesive on the filter damage my fan blades?
We designed the Barnakl so you don't have to remove the adhesive each time, rather just peel the filter away from the Velcro. Which requires very little pressure.
If you do need to remove the adhesive, just peel it off slowly and it shouldn't peel away the surface of the ceiling fan blade.
